after the landscaping project, i announced the magazine during our end of year celebration meeting via the google hangouts video call to the photography course to which i got more good reactions from both second and third years as well as members of staff. reciving this i decided to draft up an email the next day which stated
“Hiya all, congratulations on finishing your first year of uni, you’ve all done so well and produced some great work throughout the year and now is your chance to celebrate this
As I’ve said in the group chat, I’m looking to publish a magazine/look book as a collaboration of our works come September, when we go back to uni, and plan on selling copies in the uni store
A percent of these profits will go back to you as a featured artist and will be divided equally among everyone
However I may ask for a £3-£5 donated to be featured as this is to help cover printing costs
For this donation price you will be giving a double page spread, which may include 1-3 images, a short description about the pieces which you may write yourself, and any social media @’s
All artists will also be acknowledged at the back of the book
This will look great on a CV as we aim to look professional
If you’re interested please reply to this email and I will make a group chat to organize things, and let anyone know anyone who might be interested- I also consider opening this to other years/departments if there is interest“
to this i also recognised the need for a team to help me with this project as to do this solely would be quite taxing
“I will also require three volunteers to help me create this book, this will involve helping out with design layout and requires you to have an understanding of InDesign
I plan on taking advantage of the free student adobe trail that lasts until July, this will also be our time frame to produce this publication
Look forward to hearing from you“
initially this email was issued to first years as i wasnt sure how many people would be interested but i later reconsidered this as a few 2nd and 3rd years were also intrested, this would help us reach a wider audience as this might hit a slightly older age group, and would go to serve the 3rd years a lot more since leaving uni offering them a resource to put on their CV’s and add to their portfolio.
from this email i got a lot of positive responses from artists who wanted be featured totally 23, as well as 3 people who wanted to help with the layout process and promotional side of things, this process will come at a later date but is something to consider for now, we’ll also look into our social media presence as a group and discuss the best course of action
